Training
One part of our quality service is the attention that we give to training. ISNTC, our own Training School in Manila, Philippines has been certified by Germanischer Lloyd for compliance with ISO 9001. ISNTC conducts courses in compliance with the IMO requirements, particularly the codes of STCW and ISM. ISNTC operates one of the best bridge and engine simulators in the country, maintains an extensive range of deck and engine equipment for hands-on training and has the resources to upgrade seafarers of all ranks to achieve further competencies. Presently, ISNTC has several full-time instructors (ex seagoing) and a number of guest lecturers.
With the goal of strengthening professionalism and expertise of all crew members, we have introduced in 1993 one of the most advanced training schemes to educate our seafarers from Cadet to become Officer. Once a trainee, who is a maritime college graduate, did pass stringent entrance tests successfully, he is provided with a 3.5 month-theoretical training. After completion the trainees join a company vessel to complete the required 12 month onboard training period.
During their service trainees are closely supervised by the vessel’s command, based on the requirements of ISN and the ISF Training Record Book supplemented by our video training library and in accordance with the Cadet Training Guidelines. Returning home cadets attend additional courses combining theoretical and practical training prior rejoining their ships in rating capacities. Several training schemes continues in the above manner until the seafarer has successfully completed their record books, passed the Philippine government examinations, acquired the required certificates and eventually become a Deck or Engine Officer on board the vessel.
By the end of 2008, more than 1150 Cadets have completed their training at ISNTC and are now serving on board of company vessels. Many of them were able to build an officer career with us and several have acquired senior officer ranks by today!
